Good Basic Filter at a Reasonable Price
Works fine. Easy to install but then the ease of installation depends on the layout of your water system. Mine was in a cramped space and not in-line so it was a little challenging. Doesn't come with fittings but that's fine because it may depend on your installation.

Easy DIY install - Wifi app setup, not so great
Pretty easy install - I had PEX-a pipe supplying the house, spliced into it with PEX-b, keeping the number of elbow joints to 2.The toughest part was getting the app to connect to the Wifi - which is why I docked it 1 star. It turns out that my router (TP-Link mesh) had an advanced featured turned on called fast roaming and the device would just not connect to the internet until I turned that feature off. Took me a couple of hours of frustrating troubleshooting turning off and on all kinds of features on my Wifi router until I could make it work. You'd think the GE/Haier folks would put these things in their instructions. In any case, the appliance seems to be working well. In day 1 it alerted me to a slow running toilet in one of the bedrooms in our house we rarely enter. The app is set to alert you on your phone when there's a slow drain (0.5 GPM or less) for an hour or a higher flow rate for 30 min. These can be adjusted in the app.TBH - that is the most useful feature of this device... the ability to monitor water flow rate and consumption, get alerts in case of a leak and the ability to shut off the water supply remotely. I'm not even sure if we needed the filtration... but can't hurt.

will buy again
I love these. Has a switch to turn the water off or bypass the filter, which is nice. I love the clear housing. No more guessing how bad the filter is. Been using 3 of these on a well at a cabin. You can buy various types of filters to use with this. I use 1 micron filters. Good water flow. With the right filter you can clean water pretty good. will and have bought again

Every Home and Condo Should Have This Installed (Don't worry about the Negative reviews)
The media could not be loaded. Installing this General Electric GXWH04F Standard Flow Whole House Filtration System can be done without special plumbing tools! So yes, everyone can install this whole house water filtration system and enjoy clean water from every sink, shower, tub, and washing machine.MAIN BENEFITS:Having this installed will first allow you to drink your tap water, second it will reduce dirt, silt and rust which can clog or break your expensive faucets. I recently rebuilt my bathroom and bought all new shower fixtures and faucets. I installed this product to protect my shower heads and thermostatic valve. I've heard that the sand and rust that flow through your pipes can eventually wear down the seals on all types of plumbing fixtures and cause them to leak or break. Save yourself a lot of money in repairs in the future by installing this filter.CHANGING FILTERSGE made it very easy to swap out the filter once it looks dirty.1.I simply shutoff the valve to my water main,2. Then I shutoff the additional SharkBite valve the GE instructions told me to install right after the water filtration system. This prevents water from coming back down from upstairs while I swap filters.3. I turn the water filter valve to the off position.4. Next I simply use the plastic wrench that came with it to unscrew the filter from the base and place the filter in the plastic canister into a bucket. This minimizes any spills.5. I remove the old filter and pop in the new filter and simply screw it back into the housing.6. I turn on the water filter valve, then slowly turn on the water main valve, then the valve right after the filter. That's IT!Honestly, you can do this entire process in less than 5 minutes.Buy the filter and Sharkbite fittings to make the job super easy without any plumbing tools. They cost a little more, but you won't have to buy tools you'll never use again.TOOLESS INSTALLATION PARTS:You'll need 2 of these SharkBite U134LFA 3/4-Inch by 3/4-Inch MNPT SharkBite Lead Free Straight Connectorfor 3/4" plumbing or buy the 1/2" if that's what you're working with. The threaded parts screw into the filter and the other side is a Sharkbite connector that you can slide a copper or PEX pipe into. Also get a SharkBite 22185-0000LF Ball Valve SB 3/4"LLif you want to prevent the water in your house from coming back down, while your swapping filters.LEAKS:If your filter leaks, you probably didn't tighten the canister down properly. It happened to me once, so I simply tightened it a little more and whala! No more leaking.PLASTIC PARTS:I worked in the construction industry from 2004 to 2010 managing large home addition projects so I can assure you that PLASTIC is used a lot in plumbing these days. The people who talk badly about plastic either are too old school, or they simply have no idea that today's plumbing is done with PEX plastic pipes for water supply lines. You can look me up on YouTube, I make easy to follow how-to videos for all types of projects, like this one. I’ve included only a clip from an upcoming video on the Proven Helper channel.Good Luck!

Very poor support and app
The Smart HQ app looks nothing like the marketing pix, and is unusually difficult to figure out. This product needs a simple app that shows how to turn valve on/off, shows leak detection, and other basics. No chat support that I could find, and the phone number was not answered. No mention of the app in the instructions, and no QR code to simply download it (took hours to determine that I was looking for an app called SmartHQ).This product has only 30 days to return, and it takes longer than that to find time to install, so I'm out of luck. Don't be fooled by the trusted GE label - this isn't your parents' GE.

best general filter
Best general filter - especially since you can get a wide variety of filters to fit this so you can really meet your needs - so lets say you have well and it is gritty filter the sand out first then maybe a second filter with a charcole filter for taste
