High-quality tactical pen at reasonable price.
This tactical pen is extremely sturdy and has a nice solid weight and construction that makes it an effective self-defense weapon. I've used this in tandem with breaking judo holds and some other judo techniques/self-defense scenario enactments in general and I would definitely recommend this specific pen for it's quality. As a weapon this pen is a very good length and weight, and just feels very strong. The pen as a writing tool is also pretty effective and not very conspicuous, as long as the cap is on the sharp non-pen end. (It should be noted that when the cap is off the pen, the pen is pretty much symmetrical and a little less effective to use as a weapon because it feels shortened and the sharp end can't be comfortably braced against the thumb).Technically, it's a bit difficult to take the pen cap on and off. That's pretty much my only complaint. But that's fine because I rarely use this as a pen in the first place. Other notes about the pen's construction... it's easy to unscrew the pen for changing the ink, and the clip on the pen cap is strong and seems to be made of the same material as the rest of the pen.Altogether this is just a very good product that is made well and straightforward to use.

Worth $22 to possible save your life
As a pen it works as well as most you can buy like Bic or the like. As a self defense tool it is pretty solid and has lots of grip. But let's be clear this is something you should be putting allot of speed and momentum behind. In its design it is made to put allot of force to a concentrated area. That should be somewhere vital Eyes, Neck, Ribs, and Chest. Your goal should be to put your attacker down and not to scare them because this is not an object that will scare anyone. It's made to be discounted as a serious threat and in that sense it is a good surprise. Since the pen is made specific for a reverse grip it seems that people should get the simple physics of its use pretty quick to quote Antonio Banderas " The pointy end goes into the other man". And be aware its a strong round point and not a Sharp needle point.I can't stress enough that you must hit HARD, FAST and OFTEN with this pen. You will probably only get one chance if you are outnumbered or attackers are also armed. This pen is just made to carry anywhere and since most people would not know a tactical pen to look at one it will go unregistered if someone might see it. Because I have showed this pen to a few people and even a local cop I know. It was not until getting the pen in hand did anyone see it was no ordinary pen.Item shipped fast and was not damaged. For just $22 at this point it could save the life of average Jo citizen who can't fight, but in a life or death situation can use a hard object to put his or her attacker down. Like anything this pen is worthless in a survival situation if you don't have it or don't know how to use it. So make sure this pen is with your wallet, on your keys or in your pocket every day so it is there when you need it. But beyond that play with it while your watching TV or reading so its a known object in your brain. Work on yourgrip and even practice some tight to your body stabbing motions. Just 20min a day will make a huge difference.IT'S NOT ENOUGH TO JUST HAVE IT. YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE SKILL AND CONFIDENCE TO USE IT!

Every day carry
I’ve carried this for the last couple of years. It’s a great little safety carry, but also has a pen on you all the time. The pen refill is a good quality Parker pen refill.Carrying it every day as I do right next to my folding knife has worn on the exterior, but it’s still a solid purchase. I’ve bought them as gifts and have a couple extra laying around for back up

Good overall but one niggling detail
This is my first tactical pen (S&W Military & Police) and now that I've had it a week I've got some thoughts both pro and con:PRO:Solidly constructed; fit and finish excellent. Well balanced.Comfortable to write with.Size is just right, at least with the cap in place. I saw one review with the opinion it was 1/2"too short, but in my opinion if it were much longer it would not fit in typical shirt pockets. The point would deliver a very painful jab even though it's not "sharp." It makes a nice intermediate stage between pulling a tactical knife and the use of pepper spray, both of which I also carry.CON:A lanyard loop on a pen is not only useless but looks odd. I'd have rather they made the upper 1/2" of the cap solid. I may fill it with some 1/8" stainless steel. Now for my pet peeve with this item: The words "Smith & Wesson" are prominently embossed on the clip which will show when carried in a shirt pocket. Since tactical pens are supposed to be unobtrusive, a stealth self-defense tool you can take into places that wouldn't allow more obvious weapons, I find it rather mind-boggling that S&W decided to print something that even non-gun people would immediately connect with weapons. Sorry, Smith & Wesson, you blew it on this little detail. If you are a soldier, cop, or security officer this might escape notice but it would be immediately noticed if a "civilian" had it. Suffice it to say I would NEVER try to take this pen past a security checkpoint; it would probably be confiscated immediately or (if you're lucky) prohibited. Take a mini-mag type flashlight instead. I may remove the paint from the clip and just leave it as bare metal.
