German Life

The magazine has lots of pictures and articles about German history and general life. It does unfortunately seem to heavily lean toward the political views of Merkel and demonizing the opposing views, even though Merkel's party only won a minority of votes and relies on political alliances to stay in power. The reviews of different cities and tourist sites seem written by the government tourism board. So basically you just hear how wonderful everything is to see and how superior the German way of doing things is to that of other places. You expect that to a bit, but I felt more and more suspicious of the stories as I progressed through the months. It would be far better to avoid politics completely and focus on honest stories. Nonetheless it seems to have no competition and is the only English language magazine of its type I've found so far. One thing I did especially find useful were the ads surprisingly. I found German towns and festivals in the US that were well worth visiting such as Helen in Georgia and Frankenmuth in Michigan.

A really good magazine with great articles and pictures. If you are feeling nostalgic and missing that part of the world or if you have never been, this is a good read with insight into the culture, landscape, food of that region.

This is a great magazine! The pictures are fantastic. Really makes you want to travel there. My heritage is half German so I’m very interested in what this country is really like.

I'm sorry I let the subscription lapse. My husband is half Austrian, so I got the magazine. Took forever for the issues to start arriving, but when they did, they were amazing. Full of stuff we never knew...like, did you know Jo-Ann Fabric is a German company? Pretty cool articles of towns all over Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Many ads for German products and food. It's a well put together magazine. I truly enjoyed it.

Good magazine, but it took a long to get the first issue - but that was the expected delivery date so I guess I shouldn't complain. I was just so excited I wanted it right away. Oh well. Good magazine.

Good magazine but not great. Fine selection of material. Recommend it for anyone with interest in German life and culture.
