Usborne Very First Reading Set Paperback

We love Usborne books and I really wanted to purchase this set for my child who is approaching reading age but they were too expensive at the time. Then a few months later, I found these on Amazon at a GREAT price, for less than half of what it was being sold for on the Usborne site. The books have been great in encouraging my 5 year old to read and learn sight words -- I like that the pages often feature some longer passages that are meant to be ready by a parent/teacher, along with the passages designed to be read by the child. The stories are fun and the illustrations are colorful and engaging. Overall, very pleased with this purchase.

This is an awesome series for a beginning reader! My Son LOVES reading these books. They do progressively get harder for them to read...good and bad. If I find he is having too much trouble reading the next book in line, we just start over from the beginning again. We get further each time we do this. Sometimes it frustrates him when I make him start over with the series; however, that's just what I believe will help him the most.

My reluctant five year old reader asks to read more each day with these books! He loves the "teamwork" reading where there are more difficult smaller text lines for me to read and beginner-level larger text lines for him to read. Also, there are puzzles and reading comprehension activities in the back of each book which he also loves completing.

The idea of these books is great. But the books themselves are not. They seemed more concerned about making the stories rhyme than having them make sense. In every book I read to my kids, I'm always shocked when the book is over. There is no closing. It just ends abruptly. Also, they jump up too quickly in difficulty in my opinion.

Best book sets I have found!! Amazing books for my 5 and 7 year olds. Great stories and the pictures do tell the kids what to "read". Absolutely love them!!!

Great books. It is good for my 4-year-old boy. Children can start to learn phonics and spellings.

Good books, child is beginning to read and we are finding these helpful, parent reads some bigger text child reads smaller text, questions and activities to help recap story and words at end of each book.
