Q: Has anybody had trouble using these in a dell switch? i popped them in my powerconnect 5424 and they fried instantly. v and a on the plug are correct.

No issues Make sure the positive and negative are correct And the temp wire is hooked up correctly

Q: What types of screws do these fans take?

I'm not sure about the fans themselves. I have used these in switches and the screws go through the fans and attach directly to the switch from front and back. and they are a fine thread screw about 1/8" in size and 1" long
