Magic !
No regrets, pure joy. Since I bought the 312 power planter 3 weeks ago and I was so impressed that I could not help having the larger long arm 324 version. It is wonderful to have the 2 of them at the hand for various jobs.I am 72 and have a problem with one of my arms and so found the shovels and mattocks harder to handle. Well, my problems solved & am back to full gardens activities. I highly recommend the full set (bit pricey) but will transform gardening activities.

Great bit of kit for planting hedge
I have tried various methods of planting bare root hedge whips, this was the best. My land is quite heavy clay. The best method I found was to set the drill to hammer action + low gear and repeatedly push and pull so you are cutting in a small bit at a time. A 5ah DeWalt battery lasted about 40 holes.

Ok but not as good as I thought it was going to be.
I bought one of these after reading the reviews. I can only say that they must have been using it in softer soil.Using it in compacted soil was disappointing. If you also came across a large flint or stone buried it was a struggle. Once the ground was lose around it then it seemed to be ok.Using it along with a good heavy weight stone fork seems to be a good combination. If you already had a prepared flower boarder with less compacted ground. Then it wouldn't be a problem. Not quite as good as the video would led you to believe.

Works well BUT get it spot welded if its a substantial task you are using it for.
Used this tool to plant 1100 bare rooted trees in clay soil with flint. Destroyed TWO of these Augers AND a Hitachi 18v Drill! It works BUT at a cost. Both Auger helix threads had to be re-welded onto the shaft; the first when it became detached after about 40 holes and the second done as a precaution as the OEM welds really are not up to the job. The attached photos show the wear and tear these tools suffered with the helix worn away for the first couple of helix rotations.

Garden auger for use in breaking up soil
The product looks fairly sturdy but for the high price one might have expectedstainless steel. It looks as if it should do the job. Watch the videos before buying and you will see cordless drillbeing used is both robust and has a side arm. Normal household drills may not be recommendedor be man enough for this duty.Mains drills may well be dangerous if auger catches. I am not an expert so please check with manufacturerif that is what you are trying to do.I think I may need to buy a new expensive cordless drill for this item to work properly. That would take it from an expensive purchase to a very very expensive one.

It's okay.
It works okay, but it should be half the price. For the money I was expecting a beautifully formed piece, with a ribbon of perfectly placed weldpool running the length of the auger blade... It looks like it was tack welded at each end by some sort of simian. It's fine, it works but the ad is prouder of the product than it has a right to be.

Needs a heavy duty drill with a side handle
Works a treat. Rock hard clay turned to sand. I wouldn't try to use it with my cordless DIY drill, even with a HD SDS drill it will grind to a halt after about 6", or if it touches a root. As I'm fairly unfit I can only use it for about 10 mins before my forearms give up, but in that time I've loosened around a square metre of hard clay enough to easily spade out

Does what it says on the can - no problem
Recently bought a cheap drill from Lidl for small jobs around the house and wanted to dog postholes for existing trees in the garden.Saw the power planter on youtube and thought oh yeah. Also watched other mostly American reviews and checked the prices. Most were reasonably priced but the cost of postage was more than the product. Anyway, saw power planter was available in the UK so decided to try it.The auger came quickly but I could not use it till this weekend. When I could use it, after watching the instructions, it was quite simple.Decided where I wanted the hole, pointed the drill at it and started the motor. Two minutes later the post was in the hole, tamped down and a tie was connected to the apple tree, job done.Next job the compost heap needs turning.I am aged 66 and am happy to make use of technology if it makes life easier - this does
