Disappointing and flimsy, may not be Ruffwear.
After having the same leash, but from Ruffwear directly, I thought I knew what would be coming. I dont know if this isnt genuine ruffwear or just bad luck. The handle seemed to be missing the padding that is inside the black fabric. It was very flimsy and certainly not a an easy, comfortable to hold or handle leash when your dog has a high chase drive and your neighborhood is littered with squirrels. The caribiner itself is nice--that is why I chose this one again. My dog can snap the other kinds of closures and he only weighs 32lbs (whippet--fast acceleration). The size small is VERY thin, probably still has decent weight capacity but you wouldn't want to have to wrap it around your hand. This has nearly scared me away from this leash entirely, but I think I'll give the larger size a try directly from the distributor. If I have access to my review I'll leave an update or comparison. I appreciate netrush but the last two things to arrive have been big brands and things I've had in the past and both had to be returned for poor quality. So sad! Amazon used to be so reliable. At least returns are quite simple. Oh last thing! The slot for a poop bag that is SO awesome in my other ruffwear leashes came bent so far open and warped a bag will not stay inside. All around fail.

Well-made leash with a VERY secure carabiner but the grip doesn't feel as secured as I have expected
Tried the leash today for the first time on my 13-lb shihpoo, who's puller. I was super happy with the added security with the locking carabiner. At first, I was worried about the handle being too hard but it turned out to be pretty flexible. I had the handle looped in my hands for added security. Contrary to what others have said, the material of the handle didn't give me a secured grip (leash almost slipped out of hand when my dog pulled). So, I had to also put my fingers through the accessory loop since the rubber on the outside of the loop gave my fingers a slightly better grip, but the stitching didn't feel secured between the handle and the accessory loop. I understand the loop was not designed for that purpose, but I would do whatever I could to keep dog safe. Also, like many have said, the leash gets kinked up very often, but I find it easy to straigthen out. All in all, a nice leash from a nice brand. But this leash fell short in giving me that peace of mind I was looking for. Somewhat disappointed but would still use it. Will keep searching for a better one.***Updates*** I added more stitching to reinforce certain parts of the leash, just to feel more secure. Having used the leash for a couple of week, I began to love it and up'ed my rating to 4 stars. ALL-IN-ALL, I feel a lot more secure now with this leash, and in particular, the carabiner is my **FAVORITE** feature.

Although Expensive, This is the PERFECT Leash for My Strong Dog
Ruffwear products are expensive - and are extremely well made. I truly believe that in this case, you get what you pay for. I needed a leash with a carabiner hook, and this model has that. My sweet 70-pound dog loves walks - he also on occasion likes to leap toward something (joggers, cyclists, strollers) that causes him anxiety. I use the hitchhiker hold when walking him, so I have consistently strong control of my dog. However, on occasion the typical leash hook has popped open. NOT good. So switching to this well made, high quality, excellent construction, and comfortable leash was exactly what I needed to ensure our walks were stress-free and enjoyable. The handle padding is comfortable and the handle itself is easy to hold. Strongly recommend this leash!

Not worth the money
I like the carabiner latch. It's large and lightweight. The locking mechanism can unscrew itself, however, so it needs constant checking. My biggest problem with it is that it doesn't have a swivel. I thought that wouldn't matter because my dogs are trained to heel and are good leash trained dogs. This leash taught me just how often my dogs actually do go in circles though. They are trained to switch sides when I ask them to and they turn around a lot when looking for the prefect potty place. The lack of swivel quickly became a severe annoyance. The rope seems sturdy enough and the whole leash is very lightweight, so I will still use it for my service dog, but definitely wouldn't pay that much to buy it again. The handle, and the part that attaches the carabiner to the rope, have poor quality fabric and stitching. The price on this item is all about the carabiner, which is ridiculous. The leash will likely fray and have to be thrown out much sooner than any other I've ever had. I'll just keep the latch and make a replacement for the leash myself. Please don't pay the ridiculous amount for this leash and encourage this type of business. The entire leash should be high quality for this price.

Great quality but it gets twisted up
Overall, I'm really happy with the looks & quality of this leash. These are my biggest annoyances:- the carabiner is in a fixed position (leash connections should be on a spinner), so the carabiner gets twisted up and doesn't want to sit right on the harness unless you constantly twist the leash in your hand to keep up with it.- The construction near the Ruffwear logo on the handle is... strange. I think the idea is that you could attach something here, like dog bags, and I appreciate the thought, but it feels like an early prototype — they just extended the handle material without the rope so it's flat & empty? Let's iterate on that idea a little more...

Chokes out my dogs
The lack of swivel where the caribeener and leash attach causes my dogs to get choked out from their collars twisting to compensate! Even dollar store leashes have a swivel at the base of the clasp! A short walk of 10 minutes becomes dangerous to my dogs. I paid $35 per leash totaling $70 !!! I found them to be built rugged. Caribeener does need to be checked regularly. I felt that it wasn't rocket science to have a swivel on the leash. Incredibly poor planning on the companies part. And I'm foolish to be out of $70.

Very strong, great quality
I really like the design with a carabiner means you clip to your dog then lock it in place - there is just no way it could ever slip off or get loose. The actual lead material is really good, very similar to climbing rope, and is very well made.Worth noting there is not a revolving/swivel mechanism on the lead so your dog will end up twisting the lead around and you periodically will want to untwist the lead. Personally I am totally happy with this and feel a twist mechanism would be a weak spot, I like the strength and safety. We bought a second in a different colour as we liked it so much.

Excellent Product. Top Quality.
A superb product. Strong and secure. The lockable carabiner gives you extra peace of mind. Would highly recommend. Asked my dog what he thought of it and he gave two barks, which usually means: "Food please!" so not much help there, I'm afraid.Anyway, I think it is brilliant.

Fabulous dog lead
Love this lead it works perfectly and has not worn in any way since we bought it.Well worth the extra money for a good brand that does what it says! The carabiner clip is easy to use when clipping her into the car too and can be trusted to stay put as it twist locks in place. Also the handle is comfortable if you have a pulling pup and the loop for poo bags is handy tooVery happy would buy again

Slightly disappointed!
This is a lovely strong lead but as others have said, there is a slight design fault in that the lead becomes twisted if you have a dog that doesn't walk completely straight! The locking device on the Carabiner Clip also comes undone at times so has to be regularly checked for safety. From such a well known brand (and they are certainly not cheap), I was a little disappointed and expected better which is why I have only given it four stars.

Good product.
Good product. Nice size. Nice quality. Lovely colour. Like most of this product manufacturers items I’ve bought, they do exactly what they are meant too. Not the cheapest, but, I don’t mind if it lasts longer. Will get the thicker version when Gino gets a bit bigger.
