The Photek SoftLighter II 60" Umbrella takes the light from your strobe or monolight head, reflects it off its white panels, then softens it again with a diffuser on its output. This 60" size is perfect for a full length portrait of 1-2 people or a 4x5 foot product setup. It will illuminate 20 square feet. Please note that its size does not include the gold and silver discs. To mount shoe mount flash units to the SoftLighter II a shoe mount light stand/umbrella adapter is required. Shoe mount flash units should be set to Manual because all the flash will be inside the umbrella (unless the flash unit is equipped with a remote sensor). For strobe use, not for use with hot lights or modeling lights over 250 watts.

Annie Leibovitz uses one... you probably should too.
Ok so... it's a little hard, when you have the diffusing front, to fit it over my light. It works... it's just a pain to jam that thing around it... HOWEVER, this thing is worth it. You could be thinking... ehhh this other 48" one is cheaper blah blah...but this is what Annie Leibovitz uses and prompted me to get it... it's worth it, you'll love it.

I love the modifier...but, it shipped to me without the shaft. I kind of wanted that.

Beautiful light for less than $200
I purchased this from Swamy’s but thought I’d write a review here anyway. I originally bought the Softlighter because Annie Leibovitz uses it. I figured for less than $200 it’s at least worth a shot. Having used it in a few dozen shoots I can see why this is her modifier if choice. Super easy to use, quick setup, and gorgeous light. I’ve used it for product, portraits, lifestyle, and some editorial work. If you know how to shape and balance light, you will be very happy with this modifier. The build quality isn’t something I’m super confident in, but so far so good.
