I'm suggesting they use stainless instead of brass for the throw bolt
I found these UK garage door locks after a long search for something suitable in the US came up empty. These being key operated both inside and outside were what I was looking for. I wanted a back up mechanical lock in case the electric opener got accidentally triggered to open. Too much crime in the area to leave a garage door open for any length of time. These are great locks although they are expensive. The chromed escutcheons are especially nice. The cross style keys (3) seem to provide excellent resistance to picking, although a drilling attack I expect would not be that hard since the lock core is all brass. The throw bolt is disappointing though, being brass. It engages the stiff steel door track in order to lock. On occasion the electric opener got triggered while the lock was locked. Sometimes the lock stops the electric opener, but on some occasions this has not happened -- the electric opener has powered the door open right past the locked lock. I realize adjusting the opener sensitivity theoretically solves this problem, but it was set reasonably sensitive. The hole drilled in the track was a perfect fit, so that was not the problem.I will be securing the track more rigidly with a metal L bracket and hopefully that will completely solve the problem but I feel the whole issue might have been averted if the product had a stainless steel throw bolt rather than brass which is relatively soft. The extra stiffness of steel would have registered as greater resistance to the electric opener and I expect would have stopped it every time.I hope the manufacturer will consider retiring the brass bolt and using stainless steel henceforth. Another upgrade would be to have some stainless steel pins in the lock core rather than brass to making drilling out the core more difficult. The concept of these locks is great, and the materials and workmanship are very good, but a couple of changes as I outlined could make these much better security propositions.

springing their thin metal casings wide open--a usual hasp lock would have easily stood this
Bought these a year ago; seemed a creative concept, but was a major odyssey to get working capped by product failure. Keys too short for my US door thickness and extensive search proved longer blanks unavailable except from UK manufacture/sales sites, which would not respond to request they cut them to my key config. Finding a locksmith in So CA area with specialist capability to cut the long steel blanks proved almost impossible as well. Locks must be mounted very flush with door, any small bend will cause them to bind. With use over time it became stiffer to insert and turn keys, requiring frequent lubrication. Then an accidental start of door opening motor, which automatically stops at the slightest resistance, caused catastrophic failure of both locks, springing their thin metal casings wide open--a usual hasp lock would have easily stood this. I believe these to be made too fragile, and a strong jerk on the bottom of the door by a bugler would have caused similar destruction.

Awsome garage door lock
We have been searching for this item and it was only available in the UK and not shipped to the US. However, we found it here on Amazon and it works great. The installation was pretty easy and it functions as specified. Thank you for offering such a great item.

Great garage lock solution for one piece door.
I just installed these today. They have made my two car wide one piece garage door very secure. The installation is a little involved but the fit of everything is excellent. There are two downsides.1- The keys are huge. This is not a key you would want to carry with you all the time.2- Metric sizes. This lock comes from England. I used a 11/32" bit to replace the 11mm and 8 mm suggested bits. 1/2" to replace the 13mm. 11/16" to replace the 17mm.I looked all over for a good garage lock solution, and Amazon was the only supplier I could find with this lock or anything like it.

It works great on my home made garage walk thru door
It works great on my home made garage walk thru door. Much better than a padlock because it works from inside or out side. Much safer key design than American locks. I do not see anyone defeating this lock like they can do to an American Lock.

Could not use for my application
These locks look like they are made well. Except they will not work on my shop door as I have a steel Janus door. This was my fault so now I have two locks that I cannot use (costs just as much to send them back over the pond). They are too wide to fit in the "grooves" of my 944 Janus style roll-up door. I guess I could get out my disc grinder and grind away to make it fit flat against the door however, I do not wish to go down that road. So with that said, I gave it 3 stars.

extra security.
I added them to my garage for added security, they appear to be well built and decent quality for the price, they should give your garage added security against the smash and grab type thief but might not stop someone willing to spend a little time to break into your garage.

Secure, but hard to fit in a modern contoured metal garage door
Wow. I’d seen online reviews of this product and saw it being installed in 30 minutes. If you own a modern contoured garage door, don’t believe a word of it. It’s just taken me 2 hours to do one side!Firstly once I’d cut away the interior insulation to make a suitable mounting point I noted a lip on the garage door that I have highlighted in picture 1. It meant when you mounted the lock unit to the door, the locking barrel extended from the housing and then rubbed against the frame 😖. I ended up having to build a spacer to go between the frame and the door so that the barrel didn’t foul the frame.Once I’d done this it meant that the square location bolt head no longer mated into the locking mechanism.Despite buying brand new HSS drill bits (need kit that covers 3.5 up to 13mm or 17mm if you want to use the barrel housings), drilling a modern metal door is quite tough. Measure twice, drill once, and be patient. A wooden door will be much easier to work on.Eventually I decided to pop river the key cover to the key cover on rather than screw it as it looked better (4mm rivet). Annoyingly the key cover ended up straddling one of the door details so doesn’t sit flat which was annoying but doesn’t impact functionality. I just had to increase the hole size from 8 to 9mm to get round it.Finally the keys are a bit of a nightmare to work with. Firstly oil the locks, otherwise you may find one or more of the keys don’t work. Once I’d oiled them they worked a treat. They only work from one side so ensure you work out which side before you install it.My keys only work if I install them with the head of the key pointing up to down, (see pic with keys no.2), not if I hold they key left to right (see pic with keys no.1). It makes using them a bit of s pain in the ****, but once the locks are in and working they are so secure I can just about forgive the hard work fitting them and the key issue. I’m glad they are in, but set aside at least 2-3 clear hours for fitting in a modern contoured metal frame door.

best go with the orginal Enfield D613
We got these locks for a garage door, we previously used a pair of Enfield locks on another door. These came in slightly cheaper. However, the Asec HS1829 locks are not as sturdy at the Enfield ones. The bolts and keys appear to be made of an alloy rather then steel and the whole lock just seems to be a lesser quality.Today a set of Enfield locks arrived and comparing them next to each other (they are the same size) I am in no doubt that the Enfield D613 is superior in all areas. If I could send the Asec back I would but they are out of the package. Pay a little more and get the Enfield ones.

Robust and easy to fit for peace of mind
Excellent fit and a straight forward install as well. Its a great security device to stop people getting in via the front garage door. Its a shame thwre isnt something on it to stop it being detached from inside (if thief manages to enter at the rear door he can remove the securing bolts and pull it off exiting the garage with your motorbike) so this device is just ONE to have in place but consider others (cameras for example and trackers) i need to work on the rear garage door other than a door lock. But great product like i said

Seem pretty good
Pretty good. Have had to mount them vertically as I have a vertical corrugated door.Locks are a bit stiff and the keys are a bit lethal (pointy metal spears) they do come with plastic caps but suspect won’t last very long. The bolts have quite a long reach and are all or nothing so you need to drill deep holes.
