Smart CaregiverCordless Floor Mat (24" x 36")

Our 82 year old father is starting to show signs of dementia and his sleeping has become very erratic at night. In order to monitor how often he is getting up at night and be able to wake up and assist as well as keep track, we installed this floor mat at his bedside. It's been incredibly helpful! I used carpet tape to keep the mat secure.The alarm monitor (sold separately but which I purchased as a kit with my first mat) is excellent for our purposes. There are 3 volume settings. The lowest is gentle and not at audible in other rooms of the house... like a text dinging on your phone. The loudest setting will wake you at night. We have not tested the range of the mat alarm yet but it works really well within the confines of the residence.Our father loves it - does not realize it is hooked to an alarm. The mat is soft and a little cushiony. Keeps his sock feet from sliding when he sits and stands. The mat ships half-rolled/half-folded and after two weeks hasn't quite flattened out. Because of the folds and the lightweight nature of the mat, the carpet tape was really necessary to keep the mat from becoming a trip hazard.I have a second mat which we will install at our apartment door so that we know if he's going for a walk outside during the day. Now that we know he's having some issues, we want to be aware of when he's leaving the apartment. This alarm system is allowing us to keep tabs on him for safety without making him feel like we're babysitting. Score 1 for dignity.

The product works as advertised and while the instructions were not the clearest, it eventually worked and synced with the alarm device that we bought separately. However, because the mat came folded in the box, the mat lumped upwards where the crease of the fold was. This proved extremely hazardous since my grand mother (in her 90s) can easily trip on an unexpected uneven surface when she walks over the mat to go to the bathroom at night. We could not get rid of the bump no matter how we folded it backwards (you are not supposed to fold the mat because there are sensors inside, so we did it gently). We even tried to velcro the mat to the carpet of her bedroom, but it also did not work.The mat works functionally, but be extra careful since there could be a lump in the middle and that may be dangerous for the elderly.

Doesn't come with what you need and they make you pay for shipping and a restocking fee to return. Also it's way too expensive for what it claims to do.

Works great, mom hates the bed alarm so we got this instead. Very pleased.

We purchased this mat in December of 2018. It no longer functions. We have had to replace one in the past, too.

The floor mat does what it needs to do. I now know when the mat has pressure on it from a sitting person's feet and have time to react. Your situation may vary. There is an issue with the folds in the mat due to how it was shipped folded up. I found that piling a heavy load of books on the folds for several days helped. The bends are still there, but they were reduced to a tolerable amount in my case. I had very little trouble getting the floor mat programmed into the Smart Caregiver 433-CMU system. Overall the five stars I rated this floor mat component of the 433-CMU system is well deserved. I recommend reading other reviews about the available components for the system before buying the system or parts of it. This system has works well for me. It may or may not work as well for you.
