An Impressive Bike Saddle Bag at a Reasonable Price
I am an older long time cyclist and owner of several vintage (and one newer) lightweight lugged steel road bikes, all with Brooks saddles. I enjoy having one or two bags on each of my bikes to hold personal items (wallet, phone, keys) and emergency repair stuff (multi tool, tubes,etc.). I first became acquainted with Zimbale from South Korea several years ago when I bought two of their bags which I still have and use on a regular basis. I was impressed then with the quality of the products. Unfortunately, for some reason I am not aware of, they went out of business and their bags disappeared from the market. After a couple of years they are back. I have one bike I have had a hard time fitting with a saddle bag I like on it, so when I saw this bag I decided to give Zimbale a try again. The basic design of this bag is what some companies call a "banana" bag, I assume because of the shape of the bag, curved like a banana, and because this bag would be perfect to carry a couple of bananas for a mid-ride snack. When the bag arrived I was very happy with it. It is much more rugged, nicer looking, and even larger than the pictures show. It is an intelligent design, made of real heavy duty canvas and really nice leather bits. The workmanship and stitching are excellent. I treated the leather with some preservative then installed the bag the next day. Today I took it out for a test ride. I have all my tubes and emergency tools in the bag with enough room left for a banana and a PBJ sandwich. My one minor quibble is that the two holes on top to run the mounting strap through are not an exact match (narrower) for the Brooks saddle mounting loops, but I assume this is by design to allow a better fit for non-Brooks saddles that would mount to the rails. So far as appearance, quality and workmanship go, I own two Brooks Isle of Wight bags, a Carradice Barley, and bags from RBW, but the Zimbale products are right up there with them.
