The beans were visibly fresh and roasted to perfection, indicative of Lavazza’s commitment to quality.Flavor Profile: The flavor profile of Lavazza Super Crema is complex and well-balanced. From the first sip, I noticed a smooth, creamy texture with a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. The coffee has rich notes of honey, almonds, and dried fruit, complemented by undertones of dark chocolate and caramel. This delightful combination makes for a very satisfying and nuanced cup of coffee, whether enjoyed black or with milk.Roast Level: Lavazza Super Crema is a medium roast, which I found to be ideal for bringing out the beans’ natural flavors without any overwhelming bitterness. Not my cup of coffee but it might be someone else's
Update (+2 Stars):After a few days of the coffee airing out in my grinder and also changing my grind from medium to coarse (highest setting on my OXO Grinder), the coffee seems to taste significantly better when brewed and the unpleasant smell has dissipated. I'm increasing my rating of the coffee for this reason, as it actually is good enough to be a daily drink for me at this point, but I still don't believe the price is worth it as you can purchase from a local roaster or have a higher quality coffee subscription for around this price, so I likely won't be buying it again unless it goes down closer to $9/pound. That said, I'm definitely glad now that I'll be able to enjoy it in the meantime.Original Review:I tried this coffee this morning, as I didn't want to keep paying the high price for the coffee I normally bought from a local roaster, but honestly it's regrettably not that great. I wish that I had read the description better to see that it was 40% robusta coffee beans, because it is definitely lacking 40% of the flavor that I'd rather it have, and while I do feel a big caffiene punch from it, that's about it. It's oddly weak-tasting, even when brewed strong. It's a little tiny bit chocolatey/hazelnutty like the description says, and it's very fruity, but two qualities in coffee I don't care much for are excessive (unbalanced) fruitiness or acidity. This one does pass the acidity aspect (it's a bit more on the bitter side, but pleasantly bitter if that makes sense), but yeah, it's definitely not a coffee I'd serve anyone. I don't have an espresso machine, so I just tried this as pour-over coffee in a V90, but it ain't good and I'm not buying it again. It may be good for cold brew or espresso -- it DOES taste like cold brew I've gotten at a coffee shop before -- but not for pour-over coffee. Also, some people say that they LOVED the smell of this coffee as soon as they opened the bag, but I had the exact opposite experience. It smells like that overwhelming almost burnt smell that you smell in some coffee shops (the ones that serve cold brew and have a sealed concreet floor). IF that is the kind of coffee you like, more power to you!! This probably is a roast that will satisfy people who prefer robusta beans or just want the hit of caffeine, but it just isn't mine.Positives:- Bitter but not TOO bitter -- much better than coffee which is overly acidic- Was roasted recently (September 2024 -- bought in December 2024)- The flavors they say will be there -- hazelnut, chocolate, and fruit -- are indeed thereNegatives:- It tastes very weak, even when brewed strong- The fruitiness flavor is very dominant -- it's not well-balanced in this aspect- Smells like the smell I can't stand in most coffee shops- 40% robusta beans and yet priced like 100% arabica coffee blends
