Razor sharp, razor thin!
I purchased this knife to take in the RV when we are gone for long trips, and use it at home when we are not traveling in the states. It's razor sharp and it's easy to keep that way with the Reserve steel by Shun. The one thing I dislike is the fragility of the cutting edge. If you treat it with extreme care, it may last for a good amount of time, but mine is not a smooth edged blade anymore. It may be the steel, but am not sure where the knicks are coming from. I am careful with it and love the feel, but beware to use it gently.

A beautiful knife, perfectly weighted and a dream to use. Fantastic multipurpose knife for everyday mis en plus tasks. And is extremely comfortable after long periods of use. Well worth the money.

Feels great, cuts great, hasn't held up though....
I bought this knife on here six months ago for HALF of what they're charging now (thank god). I instantly fell in love with it and as a result, my German steel has gotten a lot less use in the past six months. It's true the knife is lighter and thinner than one might like, but that's why it glides through whatever you're cutting. Well, not whatever. Honestly, it's more suited to cutting vegetables and things with similar consistencies. It doesn't do particularly well with heavier proteins. I don't care though because I have other knives for that. It's a beautiful piece there's no doubt. Now, onto the bad... I looked down the other day and after just six months of regular use the cutting surface of the blade has started to disintegrate in multiple places. Keep in mind, I've never abused this knife, have always cleaned and stored it as recommended, and have only used it on appropriate cutting surfaces. In my opinion, the knife isn't even repairable. This would be unacceptable for a $50 knife, but for a knife that people are paying $300 for!? Inconceivable. As far as I'm concerned this knife should last a lifetime. My set of German steel knives look and perform as good as they did when I got them 10 years ago (and they were significantly cheaper). I sent the knife off to KAI USA for warranty repair / replacement yesterday (12/20/14). I'll update this review when I hear back.**Update**KAI USA sent me a new knife no questions asked. Definitely makes me feel better about owning their products. Of course it's going to get annoying having to send knives back twice a year. I got the longer chef knife for Christmas and it's already eroding away.

it is sharp but thin and light weight
It is a sharp knife but only about 2mm thick. It would be more useful if it is thicker and heavier.
